Bright Horizons Centers Host Storytime Event to Celebrate Growing Readers 25th Anniversary
February 12, 2025 – Bright Horizons centers across the country recently hosted a Growing Readers Storytime event to celebrate the anniversary of the Growing Readers program. Now in its 25th year, the Growing Readers program offers monthly book recommendations and storytelling tips to help families bring books to life at home. The goal of the program is to inspire young minds to see the world and develop compassion and acceptance through the work of diverse authors and illustrators.
“For 25 remarkable years, the Growing Readers program has been recognizing excellence in the world of children’s literature by spotlighting the works of diverse authors and illustrators”, said Bright Horizons Chief Academic Officer Rachel Robertson. “During this time, we have fostered a lifelong love of reading in young children. We strive to ensure that children of all backgrounds and abilities see themselves reflected in the books they read. Through each issue we have guided young readers to discover stories that inspire, educate, and delight.”
As part of the Storytime event, each center invited a special guest to read ‘Hello Hello Colors’ written and illustrated by Brendan Wenzel and ‘Nothing Ever Happens on a Gray Day’ written and illustrated by Grant Snider to the children.
Bright Horizons at Newton in Newton, MA welcomed Newton Mayor Ruthane Fuller to the center. The mayor enjoyed reading books to the infant, toddler and preschool classrooms. Bright Horizons’ COO Mary Lou Burke Afonso visited the children at our Landmark center in Boston to mark this special event.
