October 29, 2024 – Massachusetts State Senator Pat Jehlen visited Bright Horizons at Mass Ave. in Cambridge, MA on October 24 to participate in JumpStart’s annual Read for the Record® Day, the world’s largest shared reading experience. The senator gathered with the Preschool and Kindergarten Prep classrooms to read Piper Chen Sings by Phillipa Soo and Maris Pasquale Doran. Piper Chen Sings is a moving story about a young girl who loves to express herself through singing but is struck with self-doubt and nervousness when asked to perform a solo in front of an audience.

“Every year Bright Horizons centers across the country participate in Jumpstart’s Read the Record to promote the importance of early childhood education,” said Erin Hatcher, Center Director at Bright Horizons at Mass Ave.. “We were thrilled to welcome Senator Jehlen to our center this year to help us celebrate literacy and experience our Discovery Driven Learning™ approach firsthand.”

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record mobilizes adults and children to close the early education achievement gap by celebrating literacy and promoting early childhood education. Each year, the goal is to set a reading world record. After the reading, the senator toured the center and visited with the children in their classrooms.
