What Sets Bright Horizons Teachers Apart

There are many factors to consider when choosing care for your child: location, cost, hours, and other logistics. But one of the most important considerations should always be the teachers. At Bright Horizons®, we fold a set of Educator’s Promises into both our training and our daily work with children so that we never forget how critical our roles are to a child’s healthy growth and development.

As our teachers implement Discovery Driven Learning®, these promises remind them to create spaces full of wonder and joy and challenge both the children and teachers to keep learning and growing. The promises we make — to children, families, employees, clients, and the communities where we live and work — drive everything we do.

Bright Horizons teachers promise to:

Nurture and care for the whole child

We believe that children need and deserve trusting and reliable relationships. Children learn best in the care of supportive and predictably responsive adults. We know that these warm, nurturing relationships are a key contributor to a child’s ability to thrive, foster resilience, and reach their full potential.

Implement an emergent, inquiry-based approach to learning

We use a research-based curriculum that’s designed to consider children’s needs, interests, and inquiries, integrating all domains of development with respect for the whole child. Informed by observation and assessment, the curriculum is emergent and inquiry-based, using children’s interests to inspire and engage. In our Discovery Driven Learning classrooms, Bright Horizons educators create learning experiences that respect each child’s current capacities and offer engaging, challenging, and rigorous experiences that extend their growth.

Cultivate curiosity and creativity through projects, exploration, and play

We know that children are little scientists and builders, acrobats, and artisans who need active experiences with the world. They need opportunities to set goals, plan, reflect, and take responsibility. Play is the primary and best vehicle for early learning and development. Allowing children to engage in the process of inquiry, investigation, and exploration of possibilities helps them build future-ready skills including flexible thinking, problem-solving, and innovation.

Create joyful places for childhood

Bright Horizons teachers strive to prioritize the joy of childhood and make sure it’s reflected in the atmosphere of each classroom. Children’s joyful laughter and happy voices should be the predominant sound throughout every classroom, center, and school. Everyone should feel a sense of belonging and genuine happiness at Bright Horizons, and our teachers aim to ensure classrooms are collaborative communities that respect and reflect each child and foster self-confidence, relationships, and citizenship skills.

When many think of teaching, they think of the ‘what’ — the lesson plans, the materials, or the curriculum. But we know that the heart of teaching is about the nurturing and responsive teacher-child relationships.
