Learning Value:
This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to use their senses to explore and interact with the environment.
Materials Needed:
- Gallon zip-top freezer bags (3)
- Masking tape or duct tape
- Straws (10)
- Cotton balls
- Sponges (2)
Participants:
This activity is intended for child/adult interaction and requires direct adult supervision with the use of the bags.
Directions:
- Make different texture bags with the items listed below:
- Straws: Lay the straws side-by-side in the bag.
- Cotton balls: Put enough cotton balls in the bag to give it some cushion.
- Sponges: Cut up sponges into small squares.
- Place the bags side by side on the floor and tape the top and bottom of each bag to the floor.
- Lay your baby on their tummy to touch and explore the different bags. Offer some vocabulary-building words such as hard, soft, and squishy.
