This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to count heartbeats and observe how their pulse changes after exercising.
Materials Needed:
- A clock with a second hand
- Writing implement
- Paper or journal
Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.
Directions:
- Teach your child how to take a pulse by placing an index finger between the bones near the wrist (on the palm-side of their hands).
- Challenge your child to count the beats for one minute, using the clock that has a second hand.
- Ask your child, how does your pulse change after sitting? Walking? Jumping? Running? Your child can record the pulse counts in their journal and create a chart of which activities create a slower/faster heartbeat.
