Going on a Pair Hunt

A pair of socks, a pair of shoes, and two spoons for matching game at home

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to count, add, match, and sort everyday objects from around your home.

Materials Needed:

  • Anything your child can find to show pairs, such as shoes, mittens, socks, cups, crayons, etc.

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

Directions:

  1. Challenge your child to go on a pair hunt around your house. Set a timer and see how many pairs of items your child can find in one minute!
  2. Count all the collected pairs. Ask: how many shoes are in a pair? How many shoes are in two pairs? Three pairs?
