This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate an understanding of shapes and an understanding of number names, order, and quantity.
Materials Needed:
- Craft sticks
- Masking tape
Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.
Directions:
- Gather a pile of craft sticks and masking tape.
- Challenge your preschool child to build a house with the craft sticks. They can choose to build their house with the craft sticks laying on the table, or to make a 3D house with the craft sticks.
- When their house is finished you can help them find all the shapes they made by asking questions like, “What shapes do you see?” You can also ask them to count how many sticks they used to make their house.
Extension: Ask your child if there is anything they want to change about their house and allow them the time to make those changes.
