There’s a huge misconception that teachers in child care centers are essentially babysitters. Bright Horizons®, an innovator and leader in the family care and education space for 37+ years, respectfully disagrees.

The teachers at our 1,000+ global child care centers play a crucial role in the development and growth of every child in their care.

The essential impact of teachers in early childhood

Early childhood is a pivotal time in the life and growth of every child. Here is a real-world example that shows how one teacher successfully intervened to support a child in her care:

An individualized approach

Jamal was about to start his first day of preschool.

Developmentally, he was ready to move out of the toddler room and make the transition into the preschool classroom at Bright Horizons.

Jamal’s parents wanted to make the shift to preschool but were concerned about the transition.

That’s where Jamie, the preschool teacher, stepped in.

Jamie began visiting Jamal in the toddler room to give him a familiar face in the preschool classroom.

When Jamal eventually made the full-time move to preschool, Jamie took the initiative to update Jack’s parents via My Bright Day®, the Bright Horizons app, about Jack’s progress.

Jamie also made sure to touch base with Jamal’s parents face-to-face at drop-off and pick-up.

Observing Jamal’s passion for puzzles, Jamie made sure to have extra puzzles available in the classroom and paired Jamal with children who had similar interests.

Over the course of a few short weeks, Jamal adjusted and began to really thrive in his new environment — and the time Jamie took to get to know Jamal made all the difference.

Making an impact on your child’s development

At Bright Horizons, we understand just how impactful teachers like Jamie are to the growth and development of the children entrusted to our care.

Rather than teaching a stodgy, outdated curriculum, our skilled teachers use our Discovery Driven Learning® methodology, which promotes playful learning. This allows children to take the lead and pursue what makes them curious, fueling a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

In 2018, Bright Horizons became the first early learning organization to pay 100% up front for teachers to go to college. Teachers and center directors also receive ongoing training from internal and external experts in child development, with the goal of providing the best care and early education for the children in our centers.
