Elementary Schools
Developing Academic Success in Students
Our elementary schools provide children with supportive learning environments and dynamic educational experiences that enable them to achieve academic success, gain knowledge in core subject areas, and develop personal responsibility and integrity. Combining academics with a strong sense of community, we help children to become global citizens, problem solvers, and lifelong learners.
Starting in kindergarten or first grade through elementary school, all Bright Horizons® schools meet or exceed Common Core State Standards. We consistently provide an innovative approach to learning, resulting in students who are well prepared, engaged, and proud of their scholastic accomplishments.
Our Elementary School Curriculum
Our elementary school curriculum creates a student-centered and individualized approach combined with challenging learning environments to empower students to become confident, successful, lifelong learners.
High Expectations for Every Child- Using each student's strengths to differentiate instruction
Our elementary school teachers believe in the potential of each and every student. They differentiate instruction by using learning, assessment, and communication tools to discover each student's strengths and work collaboratively with families to establish individual academic goals and learning plans.
Differentiated Curriculum - Focusing on the individual learning goals of each student
Our elementary schools practice differentiated instruction by individualizing teaching based on a student's interest, readiness, strengths, needs, and learning style. Teachers create curriculum within the frameworks of the Common Core State Standards while focusing on the individual learning goals of each student.
Developmentally Appropriate Instruction - Meeting the educational needs of students and families
Our teachers continuously assess and adjust instruction based on students' progress and achievement of learning goals. Both formal and informal assessment happens daily to ensure instruction is differentiated and meeting the needs of students and families.
Planned Learning Environments - Building student-centered environments that contribute to academic success
Our elementary schools recognize the importance of daily choice activities as part of a student's overall learning plan. Teachers provide a variety of learning environments such as book nooks and art centers that students can access when academic expectations have been met or as part of recess.
Relationship Building - Helping students to navigate friendships and manage conflict
Positive relationships are the cornerstone of successful learning environments. In our elementary schools, teachers encourage positive, supportive, and nurturing relationships with every student and create experiences rich with engaging interactions. Social and conflict resolution lessons provide students with the tools to navigate friendships and negotiate through conflict with peers and teachers.
Documentation & Display - Celebrating student's academic success with parents and the community
Celebration of learning is at the heart of our elementary school experience. Teachers make learning visible to peers, parents, and the school community using documentation boards, newsletters, portfolios, and through special events such as plays, musical performances, science fairs, and spelling bees.
Parental Involvement - Building collaborative communities with students and families
In Bright Horizons schools, our teachers and principals recognize that educating students is most successful when it happens in collaboration with families. Families are provided many opportunities to participate in their child’s learning including volunteering in the classroom, organizing teacher appreciation events, helping at book fairs or clean-up days, participating in school events such as plays or field trips, or contributing to community service projects.
21st Century Educational Technology - Enhancing learning through current technology tools
Our elementary schools embrace 21st century technology and are equipped with interactive white boards, digital cameras, tablets, and laptop computers. Teachers and students can access technology as a tool to facilitate and enhance the learning experience.
