Mass. Childcare Costs Are Expensive, and Employees Want Help Paying

September 20, 2024 – In a Boston Business Journal article about how Massachusetts working parents are increasingly turning to their employers for help with childcare costs, the author interviews Bright Horizons CEO Stephen Kramer on the topic and includes data from the 10th annual Modern Family Index. 

According to a study by Bright Horizons, one of Massachusetts’ largest childcare providers, 78% of working parents are more comfortable speaking up about their family responsibilities than in 2014.

That said, 70% of working parents also say that a supportive work/life balance is non-negotiable, and 66% of working parents planning to expand their families in the future say they would wait until they were at a company with better family planning benefits.

“What Covid did was shine a light on the importance of early childhood education,” said Bright Horizons CEO Stephen Kramer. “We saw working parents try to both care for their child and be a productive employee. They recognized it was impossible.”
