Bright Horizons Demonstrates Commitment to Drive Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives with the Creation of a Fellowship Program
February 7, 2023 – As part of Bright Horizons’ commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the organization recently created a Fellowship Program for underrepresented (African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian and Pacific Islander) colleagues at Bright Horizons. The program will provide participants with opportunities to broaden their network and connect to the larger Bright Horizons organization, as well as provide opportunities to strategically map and plan their career through access to intentional career building experiences.
“At Bright Horizons, we are committed to creating inclusive and equitable environments where everyone has a sense of belonging and has the opportunity to purposefully contribute and thrive,” said Rachel Robertson, Vice President, Education & Development at Bright Horizons. “One size never fits all and as we learn and grow together as a community, we recognize the need for unique experiences, in addition to our suite of company-wide leadership and career growth programs. Our new Fellowship Program is an important acknowledgment about the need for inclusivity and representation at all levels of leadership in the area of early childhood education.”
The inaugural class of Fellows were chosen based on a blind application process for individuals who hold varying leadership roles at our early care and learning centers throughout the country. These Fellows desire to develop and grow their careers within the organization. The response was incredibly enthusiastic with close to 100 applications submitted. The one-year program involves a curriculum and monthly meetings that include guest speakers, reflection and learning, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Each fellow is paired with a mentor and a sponsor to guide them throughout the year. The Fellowship program will culminate with a capstone project related to a real company challenge. This is an opportunity to ensure solutions and opportunities are culturally-responsive and reflective of myriad perspectives, needs, and voices.
The Fellowship Program is one of several growth and development programs available to Bright Horizons colleagues. Bright Horizons has a long-standing reputation for offering high-quality, innovative, and abundant professional development for all members of our community. In addition, all members of the Bright Horizons community are able to choose and participate in a variety of learning or growth programs that best suit their needs and align with their professional goals.
