Flu Vaccines
Flu season is traditionally November - March. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly recommends that children from 6 months to 5 years old get vaccinated for the flu and encourages vaccination of older children as well.
The "flu shot" is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions. The nasal-spray flu vaccine — a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu — sometimes called LAIV for “live attenuated influenza vaccine” or FluMist® — is approved for use in healthy people 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant or do not have asthma or a history of recurrent wheezing. Anyone who is allergic to any flu vaccine components, such as eggs or egg products, should not receive it. You should check with your pediatrician if you have any questions about the vaccine.
