Working at DeVry University, I had the opportunity to learn the administrative side of education from admission to graduation. I was able to work directly with the campus dean in coaching students academically and career tracking into the correct programs. After my time at DeVry, I joined the University of South Florida.
I began at USF as an academic advisor in the College of Nursing. I worked with those learners working towards their Bachelor of Science in Nursing, but also had opportunities to work with students at the pre-licensure freshmen stage, transfers, RN-BSN students and graduate level nursing programs. As academic services administrator for the undergraduate nursing programs, I worked directly with the associate dean of undergraduate programs in curriculum development, program planning and faculty affairs.
Later, as the assistant dean of admissions for undergraduate nursing programs, I oversaw the undergraduate nursing admission process for the university’s Bachelor programs for pre-licensure and post licensure students. I also worked with other health colleges to create a pathway for transfer students to apply into the school’s nursing programs. In this role, I also had the task of developing and launching a freshmen entry admission model for USF’s nursing programs.
