The Domino Effect

A toddlers hand knocking a row of dominoes over

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to investigate laws of motion. Children will learn about force and movement as they line up dominos to knock over.

Materials Needed:

  • Dominos

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

Directions:

  1. Challenge your child to create a line of standing dominos.
  2. Watch closely as you knock one domino over. Ask: What happens when you line dominoes up next to each other and knock one over? Why?
  3. Ask your child to build a tall structure with the dominos, then knock it down. Ask: what happens when you build a structure too high?
