This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate use of creativity & imagination in learning.
Materials Needed:
- None!
Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction or 2 or more participants/players.
Directions:
- Say a few words that rhyme—cat, mat, sat, for example.
- Ask your child to think of a word that rhymes with the one you just said.
- Now throw in a few nonsense words, such as grat, or trat. Did your child notice?
- Think of other nonsense words and make definitions for them.
Shakespeare invented over 400 words. Can your family come up with a few? Maybe a grat, for example, is the feeling you get when you walk through grass barefoot!
