This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to develop increasing care for self, others, and the environment.
Materials Needed:
“The House That Jane Built” by Tanya Lee Stone; illustrated by Kathryn Brown
Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.
Directions:
- Read the story “The House That Jane Built” or watch and listen as actress Kiernan Shipka shares it on Storyline Online.
- Talk with your child about the story. What stands out or what do they remember? Jane looked around her and saw a need. She also saw people’s goodness and their strengths. She worked hard to be a friend to everyone.
- Visit Doing Good Together for some great service ideas to try with your family. You might make a free pantry, write letters to seniors, play a game, or become “at home helpers.”
