This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to develop increasing care for self, others, and the environment.

Materials Needed:

The House That Jane Built” by Tanya Lee Stone; illustrated by Kathryn Brown

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

Directions:

  1. Read the story “The House That Jane Built” or watch and listen as actress Kiernan Shipka shares it on Storyline Online.
  2. Talk with your child about the story. What stands out or what do they remember? Jane looked around her and saw a need. She also saw people’s goodness and their strengths. She worked hard to be a friend to everyone.
  3. Visit Doing Good Together for some great service ideas to try with your family. You might make a free pantry, write letters to seniors, play a game, or become “at home helpers.”
