This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate knowledge of print and alphabet.
Materials Needed:
- Masking tape
- Toy vehicles
- Small pieces of paper/cardstock
Participants: This activity is intended for independent play, adult/child interaction, or 2 or more participants/players.
Directions:
- Lay pieces of masking tape on the floor or another hard surface to make a maze or road.
- Write letters of the alphabet on the small pieces of paper. Secure these pieces of paper with masking tape to the floor at various points along the maze.
- Show your child how to “drive” a toy vehicle on the maze. Point out the alphabet letters, saying their names and sounds.
Learn More: For older children, tape down two or more of each letter and try to find matching pairs. Or, lay down alphabet letters along with pictures of something that begins with each letter. Try to match the picture with the letter.
