This activity is recommended for ages 3+

What You Need

  • Flaked spices such as dill, parsley and cilantro
  • Dish soap
  • Plates or bowls
  • Water
  • Q-top

How to Do this Activity

  1. First, fill bowl or plate with water and have your child sprinkle flaked spices on the surface of the water.Tell your child to imagine the flakes are like the germs on their hands.
  2. Then, they can then dip a Q-tip into the soap, and touch the surface of their water.
  3. Ask your child: What happened to our pretend germs? Why do you think the germs moved away?

What Your Child Learns

By doing this activity together, your child will learn that, like the flaked spices, soap works to remove and wash away real germs from our hands.
